Now eligible for IAPP CPE credits!

This 45 minute webinar has three sections:

  1. Developments in Demonstrating Accountability
Understand developing trends around the world that will require organizations to demonstrate accountability to DPAs, Regulators, and Commissioners on-demand. Policies are changing, expectations are increasing, and in some jurisdictions there are legislative activities that will result in organizations being legally required to demonstrate accountability on-demand. Understand why regulators and law makers are now looking more to accountability, a privacy principle for over 30 years, as a means to improve privacy compliance and understand what is “accountability on-demand” and how that could impact you.

  1. The Nymity Accountability Self-Attestation Project – Phase 2
Nymity has completed phase one of an international project to help enforcement bodies understand if there could be a role for accountability self-attestations when an organization reports the status of their privacy program to their office. The project had organizations presenting a accountability self-attestation to a DPA, Regulator or Commissioner in a workshop format. The webinar will review Nymity’s observations from the workshops that took place in Europe, Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Nymity has commence Phase 2 of this project.
To Nymity, to be accountable, it would be ideal if an organization could not only demonstrate the status of their privacy program, i.e. what mechanisms are in place and if they are working effectively, but also demonstrate compliance. In a perfect world, there would be a simple, cost-effective mechanism or methodology to allow an organization to demonstrate compliance with local laws, how they maintain compliance, and be able to do so directly from an accountability self-attestation with little or no additional work.

As such, Nymity has launched a project to investigate if an accountability self-attestation could be used for demonstrating compliance. Preliminary work has indicated it is possible and Nymity is looking for organizations to participate in phase 2. Similar to phase 1, the project uses real data. Organizations participating will have the choice to be anonymous or communicate participation to enforcement bodies.

Note: Nymity will also be investigating small business demonstrating accountability as part of phase 2.

  2. Demonstrating Accountability with the Privacy Maturity Model
March 2011 a new framework called the Privacy Maturity Model was announce by the AICPA/CICA and internationally endorsed by the ISACA. The webinar will review this framework and present it as a viable framework for demonstrating accountability, at least to internal stakeholders but potentially even to enforcement bodies. This framework was used in Phase 1 of the Nymity Accountability Self-Attestation Project.
